The video marks another sad day in the world of aviation as after 10 years of service, bmibaby closes it’s doors for the last time. BMI Baby was the low cost arm of the BMI group and began flying in March 2002. The airline operated a fleet of Boeing 737-300 aircraft and in recent times a number of these gained new liveries featuring the little baby icon. My personal favourite of these, one I was lucky to fly on, was Little Duncan with the little monkey on the nose! Following the takeover from Lufthansa of the BMI group of airlines by International Airlines Group a buyer was sought for both BMI Regional and BMI Baby. Whilst Regional was sold, no buyer came forward for bmibaby. The airline announced a phased reduction in flying and pulled many newer routes in June 2012, with the final day of operations for the remaining flights on September 9th 2012.
Another airline gone and many many people affected as a result. I hope this ‘tribute video’ of some of the footage I have of bmibaby from Stansted, Manchester and Edinburgh will bring back good memories for everyone that was associated with bmibaby.
